This privacy policy applies to the processing of personal data of WCERE 2026 website.
WHO ARE WE?
Personal data will be processed by Universidade NOVA de Lisboa, legal entity number 501559094, headquartered in Campus de Campolide, 1099-085 Lisboa, more specifically by Nova School of Business and Economics (Nova SBE), as an organic unit of Universidade NOVA de Lisboa.
Nova SBE assumes the role of the data controller in the processing of personal data, as defined and employed in accordance with personal data protection legislation.
WHAT ARE THE PURPOSES OF PERSONAL DATA PROCESSING?
We may collect and process personal data for the following purposes:
a. Contact and registration details: such as name, institutional affiliation, and email address, collected through forms on the website.
b. Technical data: including IP address, browser type, and browsing activity, collected via cookies and analytics tools.
c. Purposes of processing:

- Communication related to WCERE 2026 (e.g., event updates or logistical coordination).
- Fulfilment of legal and administrative obligations.

LAWFULNESS OF PROCESSING FOR PROCESSING PERSONAL DATA
The processing of personal data carried out by Nova SBE is carried out in accordance with Article 6 of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) on the following legal grounds:
- Nova SBE’s legitimate interest in effectively organising and managing activities associated with the WCERE 2026 conference, including the receipt and handling of data voluntarily submitted via online forms made available in connection with the event.
- The performance of pre-contractual steps taken at the data subject’s request, where applicable.
- Compliance with legal obligations to which Nova SBE is subject.
The performance of a task carried out in the public interest, particularly in the context of higher education and scientific dissemination.
In this context, consent is not used as the primary legal basis, since the provision of personal data is a necessary condition for submitting forms and engaging in specific interactions with the conference organisers. As such, the consent requirement under the GDPR—namely, that it be freely given—is not considered to be met in this setting.
Where none of the above legal bases apply, Nova SBE will process personal data only based on the data subject’s explicit, specific, and informed consent.

TO WHOM WE TRANSMIT PERSONAL DATA?
Nova SBE does not transmit your personal data to third parties.
TRANSFER OF PERSONAL DATA TO COUNTRIES OUTSIDE THE EEA
In the regular operation of the Nova SBE website, no personal data is transferred outside the European Economic Area (EEA). Consequently, data subjects’ personal data is neither stored nor accessed in countries that do not ensure an adequate level of data protection as defined under the General Data Protection Regulation.

HOW LONG DO WE KEEP PERSONAL DATA?
Nova SBE keeps personal data for the period necessary to fulfil the purposes for which it was collected. In the case of contact or registration forms, data will be deleted no later than 6 months after the end of the event, unless required for compliance with legal obligations. WHAT ARE THE DATA SUBJECT RIGHTS?
The law grants the data subject a set of rights that can be exercised at any time. These rights include the right to object, often used in relation to certain types of communications, as well as the right of access, erasure, restriction of processing, and rectification. In addition, the data subject has the right to withdraw consent at any time, without affecting the lawfulness of processing based on consent before its withdrawal.
