Programme Overview

Early Career Networking Breakfast
The Early Career Networking Breakfast is an informal gathering designed to help PhD students and postdoctoral researchers connect with peers from around the world in a welcoming and low-pressure environment.
When: Wednesday, 1 July 2026, 8:00–9:00 am
Where: Nova SBE, Carcavelos, Portugal (Room B137)
Who: PhD students, postdoctoral researchers and other early-career researchers attending
Conferences can be exciting, but they can also feel overwhelming, particularly for those attending early in their careers. This event aims to create a space where participants can meet fellow researchers, exchange experiences, discuss common challenges and build connections that may continue throughout the conference and beyond.
The breakfast combines coffee and informal networking with a light, participant-led discussion activity. Upon arrival, participants will select a colour card corresponding to a conversation topic and join a small group of peers interested in the same theme. Topics range from fieldwork experiences and publication challenges to career choices and personal motivations for entering the field.
Throughout the event, participants will also be invited to contribute to a collaborative sticky-note wall reflecting on the question: “What do you wish you had known at the start of your PhD?”
The event is intentionally designed to be flexible and inclusive. Participants are welcome to actively engage in discussions or simply enjoy breakfast and informal conversations at their own pace. No preparation is required and there is no expectation to participate in any particular activity. Whether you are attending your first international conference or looking to expand your professional network, we hope this breakfast provides an enjoyable opportunity to meet colleagues, share experiences and start the day with good coffee and good company.
Registration is free but required for catering and logistical purposes. Register here.
